Getting A Guitar For Our Son

My son desperately wants us to buy him a guitar. Although he never played it, he says he will practice for hours and hours, each and every day. And he is saying that because he knows me and my husband won’t get him a guitar if he’s going to quit in a month or so. Before we actually make a decision, we want to put our son through a test. And my husband is going to be directly involved with this, because he used to play a guitar.

The first thing he talked about to my son is how his fingertips are going to hurt because the strings are not so easy on anyone’s hands. Soreness will disappear in a week or two, but no sooner than that. And there will be a lot of effort needed to remember the chords. Not only that, it’s hard to twist your hand in a position where you can hold the chord and play soundly. Once I heard this, I thought my son will forget about the guitar, but…

Boy-Playing-Guitar

We have a friend who is still playing a guitar from time to time so we had him borrow our son one, since he has 3 of them. I must say I was impressed at how quickly you can learn the basics. Although, I have to say that it had something to do with the guitar as well. I remember my son saying:”Wow, this one is sooo much better than the one we tried at the store”. We took him to the mall one day where he and my husband tried a couple guitars. Of course, they were looking at the cheaper ones. So there was definitely a difference between those guitars and the one we got from our close friend.

What we were recommended to visit this best guitar for beginners site that has a lot of information on which guitar to get for your kid. The first thing we learned is that we really shouldn’t look for a cheap option. Very cheap guitars tend to go out of tune very often. It’s not only bothersome to tune them up again and again, it can have a bad effect on the entire development of the young musician. I would say it could also lead to quitting a guitar all together. I know I wouldn’t like to play on an instrument that would require constant tune ups.

In any case, my husband and son are now going through the website and will soon get him a guitar. I guess we’re all going to have some fun and some noisy Sunday mornings  :)

How Carpet Cleaning and Other Simple Tasks Can Improve Indoor Air Quality

Most people don’t realize just how bad the air quality can get inside their homes. When you think of air pollution, it’s likely that the pictures that come to mind involve things like smog, engine exhaust or some of the other contaminants that commonly affect outdoor air. However, the truth is that because we spend most of our time inside, indoor air pollution has actually become a much bigger health risk than what’s outside. Fortunately, investing in things like carpet cleaning services and houseplants can significantly improve your household environment and eliminate toxins that are hanging around.

Carpet Cleaning

Professional carpet cleanings are a must when trying to promote a healthy living environment. Carpets are comfortable, appealing and still a favorite among flooring choices, but it’s also known that they can contain quite a bit of chemicals in their fibers. Over time, carpets will begin to harbor much more than that as well, becoming a trap for virtually every kind of pollutant to enter the house. So, the only way to effectively remove everything from your carpets is to get the assistance of a trained and knowledgeable carpet cleaner who will use their powerful extraction equipment and cleaning solutions.

Air Duct Cleaning

There are a few reasons to get your air ducts cleaned out (more pleasant indoor climate, lower energy bills, etc.), but one of the most important is the positive difference it will make in your air quality. Neglected ducts fill up with dirt, dust and debris, which is then pushed out and continually recirculated throughout your home and transferred straight into the air you and your family are breathing. This can be potentially damaging for those who suffer from allergies or asthma and even cause respiratory problems.

Houseplants

Adding houseplants to your interior design plans is a very simple way to give air quality a boost.

Plant leaves and roots have the ability to absorb a lot of the toxins commonly found inside a home (from cleaners, fabric, pesticides, toiletry products, etc.) and remove them from the air. So next time you go plant shopping, carefully consider which ones will not only complement your decor but also purify the air.

Pet Grooming/Maintenance

We all love our pets and consider them a member of the family, and it’s understandable to want them inside with you as much as possible, but they can contribute quite a bit to poor indoor air quality. Aside from having them spend more time outdoors and keeping them off of furniture, pets should be groomed frequently to remove all the contaminants that get collected within their fur. Also keep in mind that pet allergies don’t just come from pet fur, but can be triggered from saliva, dander and excrement as well, making it even more critical for allergy sufferers to have minimized exposure to these elements.

Though indoor air pollution is a genuine concern for any homeowner, there are definitely things that can be done to reduce it. Scheduling yearly air duct and carpet cleanings along with following these other suggestions is sure to yield a major improvement.

GCSEs Are To Get Tougher

It has been revealed by the education secretary that there will be a stronger emphasis on Maths skills and final end-of-course exams, rather than course work, as tougher, GCSEs and A levels are revealed.

The emphasis by the government has been on Maths skills, following the shocking revelation that it took 18% to pass a GCSE Maths exam.
Maths skills in other subjects such as such as physics, geography and economics will also become more important. Education secretary Michael gove claims that these measures will correct the trend of dumbing down qualifications by the previous labour government.

GCSE

The changes were welcomed by the The Royal Geographical Society who backed the changes as a “robust curriculum with an enhanced level of demand” and said the “explicit requirements for the use of mathematics and statistics in geography is also particularly welcome”.

Critics argue that the changes will put too much pressure on students.Head teachers’ leader Brian Lightman warned that schools and pupils faced “enormous pressure” and confusion during the switch to the new exams.

“Hastily implemented changes on such a scale carry an enormous risk,” said Mr Lightman.

Maths tutor Steven Britton who provides maths tuition through his service the maths tutor online welcomes the changes, although warns that less academically inclined students could lose out with emphasis being put too much on academic subjects. Criticism has also come from Universities who express concern at the removal of the practical component from the A level science courses. Prof Julia Buckingham, chair of Score and vice chancellor of Brunel University, says that universities looking at applications will see the A-level grade “as a full reflection of a student’s knowledge and ability” and will miss the practical work “which is an integral component of science learning”.

Ofqual defended the decision saying the switch away from including science practical marks in A-level exam grades is because such assessed experiments have become a narrow and predictable process, with pupils’ results “bunched around the top of the scale”. The exam regulator ofqual announced that new-style GCSEs would be graded from 9 to 1, with the highest grade to be twice as hard as an A*.

Unique Head Gear Ideas For Women

The only fashion accessory, that men would know a bit more about than women, are the ever tricky and ever stylish hats. It’s can be quite difficult for us women – sometimes we just want to the throw on a baseball cap like the guys, pair it with our favourite pair of tees and jeans and be done with it. However, that’s not how we dress, unless of course we are going further than to pick up some greens at the Sunday market. But let’s just suppose the occasion calls for a dressier selection. Can we wear one with a skirt or with leather pants? Should we even bother with a hat and risk being branded a style cuckoo for life?

The answer of course, is yes! Sure you can wear a cap or a hat – as long as wear it correct. The hat can be an extremely useful accessory when you wear it correctly. Whether you’re at a formal event or are just going out to run some errands – your choice of headgear can really set you apart.

So for all our readers we have created an easy to follow and even easier apply rule book for selecting the right head gear. Of course have a snuck in some rules from the Hollywood red carpet, because they demonstrated their undeniable glam factor.

fur hats

Fur hats

Even though it’s by far the most predictable material for beating the winter chill, the fur hat has found a very favourable position in most runway shows this year. A number of international designers used faux fur to create some very attractive hats with layers of fabrics and distinctive hues for their clients.

If regular mounted hat doesn’t tickle your fashion bone, then you can go for the Russian style fur Cossack hats which are stealing some serious runway heat in Paris.

Now while these can be purchased online, the real beauty of wearing a hat is to go for bespoke fashion. You can purchase a variety of fashionable hat supplies and hat bodies from Millinery Online to create a furry fedora that looks both fun and fabulous.

Cossack hats

Cossack hats

Whether you are going for a walk in the park or going on ski trip, there are no boundaries when it comes to Cossack hats.

Cossack hats too represent a unique fashion sensibility that had almost been lost, given the utilitarian attitude with which hats were treated in Australian runways. We can however safely predict that Cossacks make a strong comeback this year.

Cloche hat

Cloche hat

With a cloche hat, you can draw a lot of inspiration from the gossip girl character of the 1920s and 1930s. The bell shaped cloche being a French staple, is both classy and feminine and does an admirable job in smartly camouflaging a bad hair day. To give your cloche a very unique look, crinoline fabric can be used. Crinoline is an excellent choice for fashioning a cloche into the exact shape you desire. It’s a both flexible and versatile, and would give some extra stiffness to top and the sides of your hat, making it look absolutely fabulous.

If you’re in the market for some unique cloches for some unique head gear, browse through millinery craft supplies at Millinery Online for some great ways to add a bespoke personality to your creations.

Bring the Benefits of Online English Tutoring to Your Child

In the past, traditional tutorial classes were attended by students who want to have some help in their homework and other learning tasks. This kind of tutorial requires tutors to go to students’ homes and have tutorial classes there. Or the students go to a tutorial center to have tutorial classes.

Wherever the tutorial class is conducted will still present some inconvenience on the part of the tutor or of the student.

When online tutorial became trendy, parents are offered the most convenient way to have their children tutored without them having to commute after classes or the tutor to go to their house. With online tutoring, students and tutors remain where they are while classes are going on. They meet online and use chat or voice chat and email to discuss the lessons and to interact with each other.

Here are some benefits that online English tutoring brings to your child.

1. Your child can have online tutorial classes at the safety and comfort of your home. Gone were the days when you have to rush up to school to drive your child to the tutorial center or for you to hurry to go home because you have to be around when the tutor comes. With online tutoring, you can just take your child home and let him have his tutorial class while you do your household chores. You have peace of mind knowing that your child is having online tutoring in your house.

He can also change to his house clothes before the online tutorial class starts. This will make him feel comfortable while he is having his tutorial class. If he is tired from school, he can easily relax and you can even give him snacks while he is having his classes. Relaxed and comfortable, your child will be able to pay attention to his lessons.

2. Online tutorial classes are affordable. Most online tutors charge less than traditional tutors. If you spend time comparing online tutorial services, you can easily find good online tutors for less. These tutors have web sites. Some web sites offer plans for the parents to choose from. Others ask students to have one-time registration and minimal monthly fees while a few offers tutorial classes for free.

With online tutoring, you can have several options and you can choose one which you think is convenient, affordable, and appropriate for the needs of your child.

3. Tutors in most online tutorial centers are highly qualified and have undergone proper training. Aside from having specialization, the tutors undergo training on teaching strategies to use for online tutorial classes, how to use technology and equipment, and how to assess students. They use a systematic way of reporting students’ progress to their parents.

Although online tutorial will be similar to traditional tutorial, the fact that it is done through the internet presents tutors with the challenge of making students learn without the benefit of face-to-face lectures and discussions.

4. Online tutoring allows the child to study special subjects that are usually not offered in the school. Online tutoring is not limited to academics alone. Students can study other subjects or areas such as painting, singing, dancing, or playing a musical instrument.

In conclusion, online tutoring can help your child improve academically and enhance his talent and skills.

Fun Places You Can Visit In The US

I recently exchanged a lot of emails with my friend from Ireland. We talked about her trip to the US and about all the good and bad her travel brought to her. I’m happy to hear she’s very excited about her next trip to the US because this tells me more than anything that she had a great time. Some places were better than the rest, but all in all, it was an interesting adventure. I decided to use the emails we exchanged to create a post about the cool places to travel in the US. So, in a way, me and my friend are writing this post together  :)

First, San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio, Texas

River Walk is a popular attraction for all who come to San Antonio, especially now that it has been renovated. You can take a bike and slowly ride along the river and then sit in a restaurant to gather some energy with hot, spicy food. Considering a bike rental costs $10 only, this is a great place to visit and have fun.

Second, Kansas City, Missouri

I was surprised to hear this city can offer so much when it comes to entertainment, but my friend was more than happy with all the options offered. A huge cultural center, art galleries and many forms of entertainment for 2010 prices is something you got to try.

Third, San Francisco, California

San Francisco, California

BART system is the first thing my friend tried and I think that’s the first thing I would go for. You can visit Chinatown, City By The Bay, do a art tour or visit the beach. There’s a lot to be seen when it comes to architecture as well so anyone who likes to take a long walk will have a lot of interesting things to see.

Fourth, San Diego, California

Perfect weather is what you will remember the most about San Diego. No matter what kind of fun you are interested in, San Diego will have something for you. Beach, golf courses, surfing, pubs, restaurants – whatever you want, this city has it. There are many family friendly places to go so if you are going with your little ones, make sure you visit Legoland, the Zoo, Sea World and Old Town.

So, these are 4 best places to have fun in, according to my close friend. She didn’t plan this trip at all, she just decided to come and make use of her 3 weeks holiday. She was lucky there is now a esta visa waiver program so she could get a US visa within days. Actually, all citizens of Ireland have to obtain ESTA in order to travel to the US. My friend took her ESTA application on a website that provided her with the waiver number in 3 days. I guess it can’t get better than that.

How To Choose The Proper Dance Costume

When you need to choose a dance costume for a dance recital, the most important thing is to have fun! You will find the right costume if you relax and think about the music that will be played or think about the flow of the dance. While there are many different costumes, there are also many different factors that decide which costume will be best for the occasion.

contemporary dance costumes

Age

There are many costumes that will have a “age tone” so you have to consider who you are buying a dance costume for. If you are getting one for your kid, you have to avoid costumes that are made for teenagers or for pro dancers. On the other hand, be careful when buying one for yourself, as you don’t want to look too childish. Also, the cut of the costume may be more appropriate for someone with curves, other costumes are made for those who don’t have at all. Of course, the size is the first thing you have to take into consideration, but as you can see, these other factors play an important role too.

dance costume

Theme

The theme and mood of the music should tell you what kind of dance costume to buy. For example, edgier music requires an edgier costume, while flowing, soft music will ask for a soft dance costume. Imagine how would you feel wearing a certain dancewear when specific music is played. If it feels right for you, then you probably made a good choice.

Colors

When you want to light up a stage, go with bright colors. You will definitely be seen, even from far away! But if you are dancing with a group, you need to combine your costume colors with the others. It won’t look great if different classes would have very similar colors. On the other hand, if a dance stage is going to have very dynamic, vivid lighting, go with a shimmery and sequin fabrics.

costume for dancing

Accessories

Advanced or more skilled dancers may choose to use props like gloves, hats, scarves, jackets or belts. Make sure these go with your dance costume and that you can match them with shoes as well. You can take a look at how contemporary dance costumes look like and see if there is anything you can use on your costume. Make sure you are following the trends if you want to accessorize your contemporary costume. But if you have a specific theme, like medieval times, use accessories that will fit that time period.

Common Foster Parenting Fears

There are many mixed emotions that come with foster parenting – excitement, skepticism, uncertainty, hope, love, sympathy, frustration, and possibly one of the most prevalent, fear. There is always the possibility of change when you’re dealing with the foster care system, and there are a few different reasons for fearful feelings to creep up in the hearts and minds of foster parents. Knowing what those are ahead of time may help in confronting and coping with the common feelings of fear that are associated with foster parenting.

Fear of Attachment

It is very easy to understand why a foster parent may have fear of becoming attached to a foster child, especially if they are providing long-term care and spend a substantial amount of time with the child. The primary goal of the foster care system is to reunite children with their birth parents whenever possible, so at any time they could be taken out of their foster home and returned to their biological family.

The fear of this happening is so distressing to many people that it makes them decide against becoming a foster parent at all so they may avoid the potential heartbreak altogether. Though losing a foster child is sure to bring some grief, foster parents can take solace in knowing they made a difference in someone’s life and they were needed for that time period, no matter how long or short. Connecting with foster parenting support groups and others who are in the same position can help immensely in moving on.

Fear of the Child Being Harmed Again

People choose to become foster parents because they care about the well-being of the abused and neglected children that have been put into the foster care system. Even knowing that a child prefers to be rejoined with their biological family usually isn’t enough to assuage the fear that they will be harmed again if returned to their birth parents.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much that a foster parent can do in this type of situation other than to show a foster child warmth and compassion during their stay and to serve as a role model for healthy relationships.

Fear of Accusation

Children in foster care often exhibit behaviors of acting out due to the treatment they received in their previous home environment. This behavior can lead to false allegations made against foster parents in regards to poor or inappropriate contact, which is a real cause for concern.

Angry birth parents and children may also make these kinds of accusations in an attempt to be reunited quicker. It’s important to remain cautious in your interactions while foster parenting and keep the knowledge that this can happen in the back of your mind, but there are many training courses and resources that deal specifically with this topic that can be a big help.

Fear of Being Forgotten

After putting a lot of physical and mental time and energy into caring for a child it’s very difficult to watch them leave. Though it’s more of an unsubstantiated fear, many foster parents genuinely worry that they won’t be remembered once a child goes back to live with their biological family.

However, in all likelihood, any positive experience that a foster child is provided with in a caring home will stick with them for years to come and remain a good memory. In some cases there is a chance for foster parents to build a relationship with the birth parents and stay in contact with the child.

There may be some fear behind foster parenting, but with the right training, support system and knowledge that a child’s life is changing for the better; those emotions can be pushed aside so you can focus on the important matter of providing a safe environment.
